Deborah Drolen Jones

My teacher, the brilliant, local photographer Wing Young Huie, once told me that "more than 90 percent of a photograph is access."  I spend as much time as possible with my subject (a landscape, event, or person) before I even attempt a photograph. In that way, I try to reveal my subject’s "essence." I approach each of my subjects with compassion, respect, and joy, and hope that those qualities are radiated in my photographs.
